Chrysler is an American automobile manufacturer founded in 1925 by Walter Chrysler. The company was originally known as the Chrysler Corporation and was one of the Big Three American automobile manufacturers.
Chrysler's early history was marked by a series of successful models, such as the Imperial, the Plymouth, and the Dodge. In the 1950s, the company introduced its first line of smaller cars, the Plymouth Valiant and the Dodge Lancer. In the 1960s, Chrysler introduced the popular muscle car, the Plymouth Barracuda.
In the 1980s, Chrysler faced financial difficulties and was forced to seek government bailouts. The company eventually recovered and continued to produce a wide range of vehicles, including minivans, SUVs, and trucks.
In 1998, Chrysler merged with German automaker Daimler-Benz to form DaimlerChrysler.
In 2007, the company was sold to private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management and was renamed Chrysler LLC. Today, Chrysler is a subsidiary of Stellantis, a multinational automaker formed in 2021 through the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA.
